Captains Log with Evaluator
The Captains Log complete computerized professional mental gym plus the ability to measure and graph each client’s progress throughout training.
Captain’s Log’s fun, challenging exercises motivate your clients while stimulating the areas of the brain that are responsible for cognitive abilities – attention, impulse control, memory, conceptual reasoning, visual and auditory processing, and more.
Captain’s Log includes 50 multi-level programs, broken into 9 modules and provides more than 2000 hours of game-like cognitive training! As the "Captain," you can easily use the Personal Trainer to adapt the exercises for any age from 5 to 95 and for ability levels ranging from very simple all the way up to tasks that would challenge most high level adults. Since Captain’s Log is licensed for unlimited users at a single computer, it is a cost-effective way for you to have this entire library of cognitive training exercises at your fingertips for each individual client. (To explore the programs thoroughly, order a fully-functional trial CD.)

Includes:
PLUS the Evaluator which is an invaluable tool to track client progress for the clinician doing computerized cognitive training or EEG neurofeedback. Designed to assess the skills that are trained by BrainTrain’s cognitive training software, it provides a baseline on a client’s abilities in ten different cognitive areas, and can then be re-run to assess and graph improvement that occurs through training. It is recommended that an assessment with the Evaluator be run after every ten training sessions. The detailed analytical data, graphs, and test performance results provided can be exported to a spreadsheet.
The Evaluator contains eleven test batteries which provide a comprehensive measure of progress in building cognitive skills.
Evaluator Test Battery Descriptions
The Evaluator's eleven test batteries provide a comprehensive measure of progress in building cognitive skills.
COGNITIVE SKILLS I AND II
Each of these two batteries lasts about 50 minutes and consists of four sub-tests each. These test batteries can be used to provide a comprehensive measure of cognitive skills that are helpful in evaluating a person’s progress. The sub-tests are selected from the tests batteries listed below and are generally moderate in difficulty level.
AUDITORY ATTENTION
This battery consists of three different sub-tests with practice sessions for each sub-test. It assesses auditory attention using rhythmic patterns, tonal patterns, and paired visual-auditory stimuli. No feedback is provided, except during practice sessions. Testing time is 25 minutes.
AUDITORY DISCRIMINATION
This battery consists of three different sub-tests with practice sessions for each sub-test. Background sounds are utilized to help evaluate a person’s auditory ability to discriminate foreground from background sounds. Test stimuli include rhythmic patterns, tonal patterns, and paired visual-auditory stimuli. No feedback is provided, except during practice sessions. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
AUDITORY IMMEDIATE MEMORY
This battery consists of four sub-tests that require the test taker to listen and remember either numerical, alphabetical or a combination of numerical and alphabetical sequences. In addition, colored letters and numbers are also presented in one sub-test. All stimuli are presented auditorally, requiring the test taker to use his auditory immediate memory in performing these test tasks. Limited feedback is provided. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
AUDITORY PROCESSING SPEED
This battery consists of three different sub-tests with practice sessions for each sub-test. During the sub-tests, test takers are required to process the auditory information quickly. Depending on their age, their responses must be made as quickly as 4 seconds, and the maximum time allowed is 10 seconds in order to evaluate auditory processing speed. Test stimuli include rhythmic patterns, tonal patterns, and paired visual-auditory stimuli. No feedback is provided, except during practice sessions. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
AUDITORY WORKING MEMORY
This battery consists of three different sub-tests with one practice session at the beginning of the test battery. These sub-tests require test takers to listen accurately and compare auditory patterns using their auditory working memory. Test stimuli consist solely of auditory rhythmic patterns, requiring the sustaining of auditory attention. No feedback is provided, except during practice sessions. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
CONCEPTUAL REASONING
This battery consists of six sub-tests that require the test taker to use higher-level reasoning and problem solving skills. Test stimuli consist of one or more different images that can be associated with a number based on a logical rule. Thus, the test taker must deduce this rule in order to make correct choices. Limited feedback is provided in order to help the test taker determine the logical rule for each sub-test. All stimuli are presented visually. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
GENERAL ATTENTION
This battery consists of four sub-tests that require the test taker to click the mouse when he sees a target number, letter, image, or symbol at the top of the screen that is either the same or different than the stimuli presented below. Two practice tests are provided. The target stimuli will change during the course of the test. This battery evaluates focused, sustained, and selective attention. No feedback is provided, except during practice sessions. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
RESPONSE INHIBITION
This battery consists of four sub-tests that require the test taker to click the mouse when he sees a target image that is the same color as the border that surrounds the screen. Two practice tests are provided. The target stimuli will frequently change during the course of the test. This battery evaluates a person’s ability to use selective attention and inhibition in order to make correct responses. No feedback is provided, except during practice sessions. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
VISUAL IMMEDIATE MEMORY
This battery consists of four sub-tests that require the test taker to remember either numerical, alphabetical, pictorial sequences or a combination of these types of test stimuli. In addition, colored letters and numbers are also presented in one sub-test. All stimuli are presented visually, requiring the test taker to use his visual immediate memory in performing these test tasks. Limited feedback is provided. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
VISUAL PROCESSING SPEED
This battery consists of four sub-tests that require the test taker to find a pattern that is either numerical, alphabetical, pictorial, or a combination of these types of test stimuli. In addition, colored letters and numbers are also presented in one sub-test. All stimuli are presented visually and remain at the top of the screen during the test task. Thus, it is the total visual processing speed that is the key measure in this test, since very few incorrect choices are likely to be made. Limited feedback is provided. Testing time is about 25 minutes.
